North Sea Series - a sequence of twelve colour photographic print-works.
Visiting the North-East coast over the period of 12 months using a high-resolution digital camera to capture simple images in response to the changing environment. These images were always going to be worked on in post-production to be simplified and abstracted and reduced to their basic elements.
Our relationship between the land and the sea is usually balanced. We are attracted to the coast, to the light and the space. We look out from the land but what is it we hope to see?
Perhaps we are looking inside ourselves as much as out over the water. We experience a mixture of feelings sparked by a combination of our surroundings and our memories.
The work explores the relationship between the actual and the imagined world, the boundaries of which are not always as defined as we think.
Each season is represented by three images and is intended to be viewed either individually or as a progressive sequence.
The images are 700mm x 630mm printed as archival print-works on 1m x 1m paper.
